Piero Martinello & Beatrice Brovia, Nicolas Cheng

“The vanity mirrors, despite the intrinsic material value, appear to be inexpensive. An ode to banality. Photographer Piero Martinello specialises in portrait. We were mesmerised by his black and white images depicting the life-worn faces of North Eastern Italian craftsmen. Each sign, wrinkle and furrow indelibly registered on the skin. Each mark derived from the intense routine of life and labour.

The image captures the encounter of a face scarred by time and the eternally placid, silvery surface of the vanity mirror.”
